Renting a car is a useful way to have private transport options when you don't have your own car. The Consumer Rights Protection Centre (CRPC) urges consumers to take note of important information and pay attention to important details when using car rental services:
- READ THE CAR RENTAL CONTRACT CAREFULLY
Read all the clauses in the car rental contract carefully before you sign the deal! Only sign the document if you understand and accept the legal consequences of each point!
- TRY TO MINIMISE YOUR OWN RISKS
Please note that you are responsible for the rental car during the rental period! This means that in case of theft or damage to the car, you will be financially responsible for it. Reduce your risks when something happens to your car - choose additional services (such as additional insurance) to protect you from large and unexpected costs.
- RECORD THE VISUAL CONDITION OF THE CAR
Before signing the acceptance deed, check as far as you can the visual and technical condition of the car you are about to rent. If you see scratches or other damage, report it to the person in charge of the car rental and ask them to record it on the acceptance certificate.
- DO NOT BREAK TRAFFIC RULES DURING THE RENTAL
Drive the rental car as you would drive your own - obey the rules of the road, keep the interior clean during the journey and return the car in the same condition as recorded on the acceptance certificate.
- WHEN RETURNING THE CAR TO THE RENTAL OFFICE, CHECK THE VISUAL CONDITION OF THE CAR.
When returning the vehicle, check its visual and technical condition. If any damage has occurred during the rental period, this must be noted on the handover slip. This, together with the contract, specifies the costs to be borne by the recipient in the event of a breach of contract.
Remember! Be responsible and consider all the financial aspects of renting a car and the additional costs that may be incurred during the contract period, so as not to put an unreasonable strain on your household budget!
